This entire package is a collection of outstanding, deep, tech-house cuts full of nuanced layers that ebb and flow beautifully. An excellent follow-up to his previously aclaimed releases on Onethirty Recorings; Inside/Take Me Back and Funky Thing.
Ronan returns to Onethirty with the killer deep, tech-house of What Do You Know? The title track is a sharply produced cut demonstrating a beautiful balance of warm, deep pads, controlled synth, twisted vocal snaps and a punchy, techy line.
That’s just the original! There are also three superb remixes plus the ‘b-side’ Novelle - a punchy, synth-driven offering complete with echoed vocals and a non-stop rhythm… some heardy funk laced with a BIG kick. A perfect sunshine tune for the beachside sets!
To the remixes: London’s Office Gossip has had many years of great releases on labels like Winding Road, Flat & Round, and Urban Torque. Nathan Boddy, the man behind Office Gossip, remixes What Do You Know? with brilliant results. I’ve been playing this on my show for a few weeks now, and it never fails. Smooth, electric sound, deep, thick vibes and underlying rhythms keep this mix in constant motion. Definitely the top cut for me.
Ross Couch’s System Check mix bounces up another notch or 2, utilizing the hook to keep it driving on. His remix is a prime time rocker sure to be played by any fan of Ross, his Body Rhythm label, or meaty house stompers in general!
The final mix of What Do You Know? is courtesy of Daniel Kyo who has had recent success on Shur-i-kan and Milton Jackson’s label Dark Energy. Kyo’s mix is a smooth, deep roller that pushes things way underground, recalling a deeper European sound.
Onethirty Recordings are swiftly sky-rocketing to the top of my label chart of 2009… non-stop quality all year. Keep an eye out for more from these guys or check out the website here.
