MTV Let’s You Become Part of the Game

MTV announced this month the launch of the Rock Band Network, which will officially launch in August 2009.  It will allow any signed or unsigned artist to submit their work to be made available for download and play within the Rock Band console game on the XBox, PS3 or Wii consoles.

Game players will be able to access the tracks through a separate download store to the existing Rock Band store. Labels and artists will be able to submit songs, which will then be converted for the Rock Band game by accredited firms trained by Harmonix - the game’s offical developers.   Labels can also get training to take the development in-house.

The Rock Band Network announcement comes as good news in particular to British musicians considering the recent decision by the Official Charts Company to make track downloads from games chart eligible in the UK by the end of the year.
