Tres Gueros is the amalgamation of three brooklynites led by the amorphous producer, Sleazy McQueen. Pulling together a joint of different but like-minded artists, Sleazy wanted to create a different soud than the usual house tracks. Instead You Go was the result.
Headtunes Recordings was formed in 2005 by Paul Petrick, John Davis, Marc Ellison, and designer Scott Ellison. They started by throwing parties and loving great beats. They set out to expose music and producers that they were into: Headtunes became that outlet. Headtunes criteria is simpleā¦.. all about House music, from techy beats, deep and funky melodies and everything in between.

Instead You Go is a nice spin on house music; a mid-tempo, funky vibe that could easily cross over into many a radio playlist. It inspires thoughts of sunshine, open roads, and pool parties; a real feel-good track. Anthony Mansfield keeps things quirky and emphasises the disco bleeps and electronic toms. Low pumping stabs and percussion drive this mix along, with the vocal stripped back and used sparingly. Canada’s disco-king Neighbour turns out a suitably funk-driven mix, letting the bass guitar lead and adding swirling synths and bright stabbing strings, showing why he is in big demand right now. SMQ leans toward the deep, techy path with the vocal reverbing and echoing around and subtle 4/4 percussion making it a very clean and understated track. The bass still has that funk and chugs along with smooth keys filtering in and out. The digital release of the EP features a mix from Dave Allison. Starting mellow and with some moody Rhodes chords, the funk soon filters in and his mix honors the live feel of the original well, and simply sits back and relaxes a little more. Also on the digi-EP is a Leon Louder mix, and he twists things into a tech-funk monster. Growling bass stabs and sharp percussion punctuates around the quirky vocals, and managing to take the track in a deeper and darker direction, but still keeping the funk alive.
