This week we had a major win for digital DJing on the show. You all know by now that I’m a huge Traktor advocate and fan, having made the switch a few years ago. I love my vinyl and it still has pride of place in the Trans-Atlantic Airwaves studio, but the digital platform has alowed me to play a far greater variety of music and promote unreleased tracks in a way that was just impossible with wax. We all have our opinions, and yes… I know Mr Klutz will be spitting into his rum glass just reading this, but you have to embrace the new sometimes because it really does have some incredible upsides too.
One of those upsides was a brief chat that I had with good friend Asad Rizvi over AIM during this week’s show. As we caught up briefly he very kindly sent over two of his new releases; Me Tangere and Sheenwolf, both due out on Reverberations in October. Without doubt, these were two of the monster tunes of the show and caused the shoutbox to go a little bonkers! He’s one of the very best producers in my (and many other people’s) opinion, and these new cuts only affirmed that statement - both absolute dance floor shakers! They come up towards the end of the show, so keep your ears out and make sure you check out Asad’s Myspace in the next few weeks for news on the release.
It’s absolutely unfair to single out just Asad’s tracks only this week because I received some other beasts from a variety of sources. Since coming back from my week off to welcome little Lucas (pictured above, rocking the Floyd!) into the world my inbox has been bulging with pure quality. As always 8D Promo and Kahua are unfailing in their support of house music brilliance. In the show I played new Council House, Headtunes, Full Flavor and a couple of tracks from the incredible Statra Recordings Unreleased, Reissues & Bsides promo. And as if that wasn’t enough, I reconnected with my old friend and 3am Recordings label boss Al Bradley who was kind enough to send over a load of new material from the label which just tears the roof off! I’ve always been a fan of the label, but Wow… really WOW! Three tracks from forthciming releases make it onto the (packed!) show this week; Chris J, Carlo Gambino and Cosmic Groove Transmission, all worthy of special note. You can get even more from Al by checking out his awesome Current & Future Mix of soon to be released 3am tracks right here… Al Bradley - 3am Recordings Current & Future Tracks Mix
OK, enough of the chat… get your ears around this one. I hope you like - it was seriously good fun while we rocked it live… little Luke was even throwing some big shapes too!
I’m back with more live action this Friday on My House Your House from midday to 2pm PST, 8pm - 10pm if you’re in the UK.
See you then,
