A recent addition to the world of quality labels is Jacob’s Eclectic Avenue Records, with a nod to the mid-tempo grooves & a very definite ‘classic’ sound; it’s not deep house, nu-disco or funk, it’s really a combination of all the above, with the emphasis being on 100% quality, showcasing new acts alongside more established names. After working on the Baker Street label, Jacob knows his stuff & wanting to pursue less house-based avenues, E.A.R. was born.

Exclusively released on vinyl and available via Prime Direct here
Despite its recent launch, Eclectic Avenue Records has already grabbed a firm hold of the attention of the DJ looking for a deeper & slightly slower sound, with a real nod to classic sounds favoured by the likes of Greg Wilson et’al, with deep & sultry grooves, vocals and warmth throughout. The Dead Rose Music Company show this ethos to be completely true with what can only be described as a stunning release; Am I Still The One has echoes of the finest vocal workouts from the early 80’s and could quite easily be something lifted from a Larry Levan mix or a Paradise Garage compilation – it’s THAT good. Wonderful vocals atop a deliciously sultry backbeat of reverb percussion and striking bass, giving the track pure class; this really is something quite special.
Original:
Rob Mello ups the tempo on his remix, but not so much as to take away from the original’s spirit, utilising the vocal parts in a more sporadic fashion & still retaining a classic feel (no pun intended…), again creating a stunningly deep & warm workout. The E.A.R. ethos also means that this beauty is only available on limited vinyl, so if I were you, I’d hunt this down & get it before you lose the chance, as this is quite simply stunning!
