Persian - Habitat EP (Deep Edition)

Persian - Habitat EP (Deep Edition)

The UK deep house scene is currently building with strength and recent additions to the scene, Deep Edition Recordings, have slotted in nicely to the ‘quality’ end of the spectrum. With the Northern deep house scene of the 90’s & labels such as Paper, Toko, Rainy City etc. all showing a wealth of talent, the same is now happening again and Deep Edition are among several labels spearheading a new breed of quality Northern house music.

Several releases into their relatively short life and Deep Edition are already carving themselves a niche within the house scene, showcasing new talent and providing a platform for up & coming producers, with the emphasis on quality. And quality is definitely on offer on the Habitat EP, from producer Persian. Opener Be With Me is a deep and percussive workout, with a cracking swing to the beats and a tasty use of a vocal snippet. This builds to a lovely breakdown, returning to the groove in full effect & creating a really strong yet warm vibe.

Be With Me:

Naughty Bird is a very original cut, which has some choice samples of, you guessed it, birds – it really works though, with the added “ooh” & “aah” vocals & the undulating deep bass. Nice to hear something alternative being tried out & great to see a house label unafraid to give something slightly unusual a release; big thumbs up for that, as it really does sound excellent.

Naughty Bird:

On the Naughty Bird remix tip, label boss Martijn shows why he is already forging a strong name for himself with a wicked deep groove; shuffling percussion leads the way with some marvellous rumbling bass, carrying the track along with the aforementioned vocal refrains.

Naughty Bird (Martijn Remix):

Taking things into totally different territory is Steve SoulBasics, whose Jungle Ruff Cut version adds some stabs and an occasional bass hit that could floor Mike Tyson – really powerful deep house, which retains the spirit of the original. Another cracking release from Deep Edition.
