The latest release from Leeds based Re:tweak features 3 cuts from the main label artists, showcasing a real quality in deep/tech based grooves. No need for named remixes here; the strength of the tracks alone shows this is a label with a definite gameplan. If smooth deep house with a twist of tech is your thing, then Re:tweak is the label for you.

UK deep house has taken a real turn for the good in recent years & labels such as Re:tweak are adding to the quality threshold. It’s great to see a label which is utilising its own in-house talent to move forward, without pandering to massive name remixes – more power to Re:tweak for that! Kicking off the EP is Hot Sands Dark Drones, which is a deep & moody affair; tight percussion flows with a wicked rumbling bassline, topped with a nagging vocal snippet. Certainly a groove to set the tone for a darker twist during any set, this is a real mood setter.
Dark Drones:
Following this is the highlight of the three tracks for me, the outstandingly strong Makka & Howard Sessions Trip To The Darkness. A gorgeous bubbling bassline is complimented with some sultry chords & tripped out FX, creating a groove which is both warm, deep & moody, yet retaining a fantastic swinging vibe – without doubt, this is one of the finest deep cuts all year for me.
Trip To The Darkness:
Rounding off the EP is another cracker, Mata’s Deep Step, which ironically does have a hint of early Orbital about it; off-beat percussion and a lively sparking top-line make this a gem of a cut, showcasing a label which is unafraid to push the various styles they favour, rather than opting for the obvious. Put simply, this EP is something very special indeed from a label which any self-respecting house aficionado should be checking regularly.
