All quiet over here as all guests from London & Amsterdam have left which makes me sad but also gives me the opportunity to sit down and get into some of the new releases that I had not gotten to.

We opened the show with a wonderful track by Maddslinky also known to many more as Zeb Bias called “Special” which features Omar on vocals. You may remember Omar from the Talkin’ Loud days and his soulful semi hit, “There’s Nothing Like This”. I loved the Acid Jazz period in the mid nineties. London was so happening with so many small labels like Tongue & Groove, Nuphonic, Boogie Back, Mo Wax, Wall Of Sound, Dorado putting out incredible music with mostly full live acts with horn sections being recorded in people’s bedrooms and basements. The common thing was to use the bathroom as the vocal chamber as that usually was the only separated space to do so!

At that time I had my own label Stepping Stone and managed various artists in the scene. I can also credit ourselves for being the first US label to release domestically Kruder & Dorfmeister & DJ Takamura here in the States. Our first release Groovin High Vol 1, was one of the highest selling complications of this genre ever at that time and were able to pack clubs like The El Rey in L.A. & Twilo in NYC with our release parties, good times indeed!

Apologies for reminiscing, so back to present. Other stand out tracks for me in this show are: Grace Jones remix of “Love You To Life”, Jneiro Janel,  “Castaju Cajunea” Diplomats of Solid Sound’s groovy soul piece, “I Can’t Wait For Your Love” (Pistol Allen Mix). I threw in the classic “Have You Seen Her” by The Chi-Lites, some people may think this sappy but I have always loved most of what they have released.

Chico Mann’s just out album “Analog Drift” is a killer we played “Harmonia” we will be selecting more songs from this album guaranteed over the next few shows. Also thanks to Trevor at Jalapeno in London we played the beautiful & dreamy “Shampoo” by Elegia & “Lady Shaker” by The Odd Couple. “Golden Mile” by Sonny Fodera was present in the our customary end of show house mix as was,  super latin funky mash-up “The Suitable Story” by Jay Lumen & Format B.
