For some reason this week I felt in a Afro state of mind, maybe Martin Luther King day last Monday had something to do with it! So included in this show are some gems that I feel represent a cross section of Afro cross polinyzation projects. I have not included in this show the incredible Afrocubism project or the exciting new release from Ebo Taylor as I think we have being playing quite a lot from both releases over the last month or so.

In our Afro section we played “Be Africa” by Bibi Tanga & The Selentites from the 2010 album “Dunya”. Bibi was born in Bangui (that’s in The Central African Republic) and raised on a diet of Curtis Mayfield, James Brown and Kinshasa Afro-jazz. King Sunny Ade many consider to be the Bob Marley of Africa, Synchro System the album was a follow up to the critically acclaimed “JuJu Music”, but did not get the recognition or sales that “Juju Music” garnered, still for me the vibe is sublime! On to the Afro Beatles mash up of “Come Together”, this project was masterminded by the Marksman & Rich Medina, we will definitely be playing more tracks from this project in the future, Fela meets The Beatles!

I will also play on the next show “Africans” the new release by Nneka, I just could not fit everything in, how quickly two hours pass while you are having fun!

Lastly I just want to mention some new releases, I included two tracks from the naffly named but great new “Hotel Voyage” compilation on So Sound,  “A New Life” by Jazzy Eyewear & “Disceaux” by Les Loups. “Light It Up” (Freaky Behavior remix) by Melbourne’s finest Fergus on Brian Kat. Last show we played the original mix of “Light It Up”, the original is completely dope in every-way, so this remix takes it into the even dopier! I also love the Punks Jump Up remix of “Ace of Hz” by Ladytron. I have always loved Ladytron, “Destroy Everything You Touch” one of my all times favorites, “Ace of Hz” while leaning more on the pop side of things is very catchy, love the furious stabby keyboard parts!
